THE GITHTML FIELD GUIDE

Run an offline documentation preflight before travel

Prepare offline reading by opening the exact documents you need while connected, then repeating the reading task without connectivity. Check essential text, images, navigation, and version information. A successful online view or a visible library entry does not prove that all required content and remote dependencies will be available later.

Define a small reading mission

Choose the tasks you expect to complete while disconnected, such as reviewing a proposal or studying a release handbook. List the required pages and supporting references. Preparing a bounded packet is easier to verify than assuming an entire repository or website has been mirrored.

Check whether the material may be stored on the device. Work documents can carry confidentiality or retention rules that still apply during travel. Resolve those requirements before making additional copies.

Open the actual reading copies

Use the same app, device, and documents you intend to use later. In gitHtml, confirm that the selected .html pages contain the necessary prose. Do not count source Markdown or a link to a hosted site as a saved HTML reading copy.

Inspect figures, tables, and code examples, not just the first screen. A page may display its heading while an essential diagram or later section still depends on remote content.

  1. List the documents required for the offline task.
  2. Open them on the intended device, then disconnect.
  3. Reopen each page and check critical figures and navigation.

Repeat the task disconnected

Disable network connectivity and revisit the packet. Close and reopen the documents through the normal reading route. Follow internal navigation and inspect the specific sections needed for the planned task.

Record failures precisely: missing image, empty search panel, unavailable linked chapter, or stale version label. Do not solve every failure by enabling scripts or remote resources. Those settings cannot create network availability and can introduce unrelated behavior.

Keep a fallback and a refresh rule

For essential material, prepare a permitted standalone HTML copy with inline CSS and necessary content embedded or expressed as text. Preserve the source revision and date inside the file. Keep the copy focused enough to verify thoroughly.

Before departure, refresh only the pages that changed and repeat the relevant checks. Your final checklist should include content completeness, readable layout, accessible warnings, working in-document links, explicit remote-only references, and a clear statement of which release the packet describes.
